Philipp “philbort” Gruissem is Latest partypoker Signing

While PokerStars seem to be shedding sponsored pros at a rate of knots (this month alone Vanessa Selbst, Jason Mercier, Felipe Ramos, and Betrand “ElKy” Grospellier have all parted ways with the online poker giant), partypoker seem intent on doing precisiely the opposite. Having announced partnerships with both Joni “bustoville” Jouhkimainen and Ike Haxton already this month, partypoker have now inked a deal with German high roller Philipp “philbort” Gruissem to become the site’s latest Ambassador.

Gruissem’s Ambassadorship was announced yesterday morning on partypoker’s twitter pages:

Gruissem was one of the first big tourney winners to come out of Germany, tearing up the high roller tournaments in 2013 and 2014, paving the way for the likes of Fedor Holz, Steffen Sontheimer, Ole Schemion, Dominik Nitsche, Stefan Schillhabel and others. He has over $11,000,000 in live tourney winnings and another $3.5m in online MTT scores. Gruissem also played semi-regularly at the online cash game high stakes tables under the screen name “philbort”.

Writing on the partypoker blog partypoker Managing Director Tom Waters said: “I am honoured that Philipp has agreed to join us at partypoker. Philipp is such a well-respected player both in the German and global poker community that he is a perfect fit to join the team. He also has a great character and experience and will bring something a little different to the team.”

Gruissem said via his twitter page:

Gruissem has long been a popular figure among his peers both for his easy going personality and his commitment to charitable causes. Along with poker buddies Igor Kurganov and Liv Boeree, Gruissem was a founder of  Raising for Effective Giving (REG), a charity fundraising nonprofit. Members of REG donate have committed to donate 2% of their earnings to the cause. REG donates to, and recommends, selected charities based on their cost-effectiveness.
