Less than three months ago Triple Crown winner Betrand “ElKy” Grospellier became the fourth pro this year to quit PokerStars after over a decade as a Team pro, vocalising that he hadn’t been particularly happy about the way the company was heading with regards to their commitment to poker players in recent years. He has now thrown his hat into the ring with partypoker and has been unveiled as their latest Brand Ambassador.
It will probably come as no surprise that ElKy has ended up on Team partypoker as he has always been very highly respected by his peers and was a great ambassador for PokerStars. ElKy is the third former PokerStars pro to find a new home at partypoker along with Jonny Lodden and Ike Haxton.
A Subtle Swipe at PokerStars?
When Grospellier tweeted news of his departure from PokerStars back in January he indicated that he hadn’t been happy about the direction the company had taken since it was initially acquired by Amaya, saying;
“I am happy to have been involved – except for those last few years unfortunately – on how PokerStars could offer the best Poker experience and improve players satisfaction”
In a none-to-subtle swipe at his former employer ElkY again posted a statement on twitter, opening with the remark:
“It is very refreshing to be in touch with a company which prioritizes the wellbeing of the game and its community”

ElKy On Board Ahead of Shared Liquidity Launch
More specifically, ElKy has joined partypoker as a “.eu ambassador” to help launch the new network which will be launched later this month to accomodate the shared player pool between .fr and .es now that the two nations offer the opportunity for shared liquidity. As France’s biggest ever money winner with over $13m in live tourney earnings, as well as $2m online, ElKy is about as perfect as fit for the role of promoting the brand in Europe.
Speaking of ElKy’s appointment, partypoker Managing Director Tom Waters said:
“We are delighted that ElkY is joining us at partypoker. ElkY has a fantastic profile and has great experience both in France and across the world and this makes him a perfect ambassador for us ahead of the shared liquidity launch. We will be looking to translate recent successes we have seen in our dotcom market to the new .eu market and ElkY will be instrumental in helping us to achieve our goals.”
ElKy sported his partypoker patch for the first time today in Day 2 of the Main Event at the MILLIONS Grand Final in Barcelona. Unfortunately it didn’t bring him the requisite luck as he busted before the bubble burst and subsequently left the tourney empty handed!
