Chris “Big Huni” Hunichen is one of the biggest online tournament winners of all time but until Thursday a WCOOP title had eluded him, despite having been heads-up for a WCOOP on two previous occasions. He managed to close the deal, however, in event #40-H ($530 5-Card PLO 6-Max) for $53,537.37.
The tournament drew 609 entrants, creating a prizepool of $304,500. Having negotiated his way to the final table in third place, Big Huni found himself among some tough competition with three with of his six table mates (WhatIfGod, Rui “RuiNF” Ferreira, and Anis “Trabelsi” Trabelsi) already WCOOP winners, as well as a former online tourney world no.1 in Mike “munchenHB” Telker.
Despite the tough competition, Hunichen quickly made his intentions clear as he jumped into the chip lead after eliminating Trabelsi in 7th place in a +4m chip pot.
After sitting out the next three eliminations but still hovering at or around the chip lead, Big Huni struck again when he cruelly despatched munchenHB in 4th when he spiked a 2 on the river to complete a wheel draw to best munchen’s pair of Kings. Huni increased hie lead substantially soon after as he took half of LgwZ’s stack in a set-over-set encounter, and then finished him off by cracking his Aces by hitting running diamonds for an Ace high flush.

This enabled Big Huni to take a near 3:1 chip lead into heads-up play with 2 time WCOOP champ WhatIfGod. Heads-up only lasted six hands with Hunichen taking 3.2m of his opponent’s 8.3m after his straight bested WhatIfGod’s set of Aces, and then it was all over a couple of hands later when WhatIfGod went with his pocket Aces after a 2♠T♦4♠ flop and was looked up by Hunichen who tabled T♥8♥7♦4♦3♠ for top two pair. Neither the turn or river could help WhatIfGod and he had to settle for second best and a $38,381.06 payday while “Big Huni” celebrated his first WCOOP title with a $53,537.37 payday.
This latest win puts Hunichen’s lifetime online tourney earnings up to $9,816,811 as he closes in on the big $10,000,000 milestone.
