23 year old Brit Charlie “Epiphany77” Carrel leads a charmed live; a popular character on the live tourney circuit, Charlie deposited $15 on PokerStars just four years ago and won the first tournament he ever entered, a $1, 180 man sit and go for a profit of around fifty bucks. He said in a 2015 interview with Pokerlistings that had he not made money from that, he probably would have never deposited again. $5.5m in live tourney cashes, and a whole load more online later, that was no doubt a fortuitous initial victory. A few short years on from his $1 tourney win, and ladyluck is still shining on Charlie Carrel as in the early hours of this morning he won SCOOP #16 H, $1,050 PLO8 6-Max for $67,410 after mistakenly thinking he was entering a NLHE tournament!
Carrel is having another stand-out year so far in 2017. In January he made his second seven-figure tournament score, finishing 2nd in the PSC Bahamas $100k Super High Roller for $1,191,900, since when he’s added a further $500k in live cashes. He’s also not faring too badly at the virtual felt; in the early hours of Monday morning he won PokerStars $1k Sunday Grand for $51,489 after topping a tough 270 strong field, and now just four days later he has secured his first SCOOP title to go alongside the WCOOP title he won last September where he picked up $60k in a $215 NLHE event.
Amazingly, Carrel won the $1k PLO8 tourney, beating 320 other players, despite being a novice at the game. The overwhelming majority of Carrel’s games are NLHE, with the occasional PLO thrown in, but Hi/Lo is certainly not one of his specialties.
